COVID-19 Operations

sign up info
In an effort to provide more swimming opportunities for our residents, the following will go into effect on March 1:
1.  Two people per lane during fitness reservations.
2.  Additional lap swimming times in the leisure pool on Monday and Wednesday evenings (5:15-7:30 p.m.)
3.  Family swim reservations in the leisure pool will no longer be limited to two families per time slot.  We will now base those reservations by
     number of individuals (12).

A look at our operations:
-  Competition pool opens early mornings for Virginia Tech swim practice.  They return in the later part of the afternoon for their second
    practice, which includes diving.
-  H2Okies, our local youth USA swimming program, swim immediately following and sometimes after school.
-  Both teams above practice Saturday's beginning at 7 a.m.
-  Competition pool closes at 9 p.m. after we accommodate contracts with Radford, Giles, Narrows and Christiansburg high schools.  Including
Auburn Middle, Christiansburg Middle and St. John Neumann.
-  Each weekday evening, the diving tower is busy with our local youth age group diving program.  The current reigning Virginia High School
State Champions for Boys and Girls Class 2A (Radford High), the Girls Class 3A (Christiansburg High) and the Boys (Blacksburg High) and
Girls 4A (Salem High) Champs all train here.
-  When the leisure pool is not open to residents, we are providing private swim lessons with hopes to open group lessons following the
    restrictions of social distancing.
-  Water fitness classes are offered in the evening, they too are under strict guidelines for numbers.  Therefore, we cannot open for public
swim; a fitness class limits the numbers in the executive order.
-  The CAC operates with part-time lifeguards working less than 25 hours per week, most employees request only 10-15 hours due to school
schedules.  Prior to COVID, we employed 40 lifeguard, today, 17.
-  Lifeguard training classes completely stopped when COVID hit.  The CAC has not resumed training of lifeguard at this time due to the
    challenges of social distancing.
-  When a swim meet is scheduled in the facility, every effort is made to provide public reservations prior to the meet start times.
